VARIED SOUNDSCAPES
We are delighted to present the details of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia’s 2022-23 season at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Our carefully curated programmes will offer a wide range of soundscapes and allow our audiences to experience the power and beauty of orchestral music in the hands of some of the world’s finest artists.
With that in mind, we open our new season with a concert featuring star pianist Ivo Pogorelich, who will perform the Second Piano Concerto by Chopin, the composer whose music made him a legend.
We continue by tuning in to the harmonies of nature with two cornerstones of the orchestral repertoire: Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, conducted by Thomas Rösner. We’ll also be drawing up a musical map of Classical Vienna – as represented by Schubert, Haydn and Mozart, with works by the latter performed by three of today’s leading female pianists: Elisabeth Leonskaja and Katia and Marielle Labèque.
Another of their number, Alice Sara Ott, presents the Spanish premiere of her transformative, life-enhancing recital centred around Chopin’s 24 Préludes, while Joshua Bell joins us to explore images of beauty and virtuosity in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor.
Our Artistic Director Tomàs Grau will cast new light on the symphonic worlds of Dvořák, Schumann and Brahms, and we will once again share the excitement of music-making with the great violinist Midori as she performs Tchaikovsky’s sublime Violin Concerto.
To bring our season to a spectacular close, we’re thrilled to present one of the great symphonic-choral landmarks of musical history, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 “Lobgesang”.
We’re excited about the prospect of embarking on a journey through all these varied soundscapes and, together with all our supporters, expanding the boundaries of our map of musical memories and emotions.
Enjoy the season!
