Last Sunday we had an exceptional night.<\/p>\n

All of the Maxim Vengerov<\/strong> traits we’ve admired for decades were present in the two Mozart<\/strong> violin concertos he performed. Its rich and concentrated sound; an agile and immaculate technique; the meaning and purpose it injects into every note; and, above all, the impressive bow control that allows him to surprisingly lengthen sentences.<\/p>\n

In the second part, Tom\u00e0s Grau<\/strong> conducted Brahms’s First Symphony<\/strong>.Grau offered his characteristic diaphanous, clear and lyrically precise reading<\/strong>. Marking accents of great beauty<\/strong> in the attacks of the oboe, the epicness<\/strong> of the timpani and horns, or the heroism and melancholy<\/strong> of the strings. These latter brought complete clarity to every shift in mood and meaning throughout the work: exquisite calm in the second movement, gentle sympathy in the third, and the journey to spiritual enlightenment<\/strong> of the fourth<\/p>\n
