The concerts of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia<\/strong> with Leonard Slatkin<\/strong> left a clear and shared impression of having experienced evenings shaped by a deep rapport between conductor and orchestra<\/strong>. From the opening bars of Barber\u2019s Adagio for Strings<\/strong>, the sound found a poised balance<\/strong>, tracing a journey from introspection towards a serene light<\/strong> that Slatkin understands as a prayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Haydn<\/strong>, this connection translated into clarity and a sense of humour<\/strong>. The \u2018Surprise\u2019 Symphony<\/strong> unfolded naturally, with clean phrasing<\/strong> and a flexible orchestra<\/strong>, attentive to every gesture and capable of responding with precision and lightness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Schubert\u2019s \u2018Great\u2019 Symphony<\/strong>, the musical discourse expanded with breadth and coherence<\/strong>. Slatkin, with his profound understanding of the work<\/strong>, conveyed a clear reading of the score<\/strong> that the musicians embraced with conviction. The cohesion between sections<\/strong>, with solid strings<\/strong> and characterful woodwinds and brass<\/strong>, guided the path towards a vibrant and energetic finale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was also a special evening for another reason: Leonard Slatkin\u2019s return to the Palau 40 years later<\/strong>. Making this possible as an orchestra is, for us, a genuine source of pride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
