En repetidas ocasiones, David hab\u00eda pedido a Mendelssohn un concierto, pero \u00e9ste fue aplazado una y otra vez debido a los numerosos compromisos del compositor en Leipzig, Berl\u00edn y Londres.<\/p>\n<p>Por \u00faltimo, en julio de 1838, Mendelssohn escribi\u00f3 a David: &#8216;Me gustar\u00eda escribirte un concierto para viol\u00edn para el pr\u00f3ximo invierno. Uno en m\u00ed menor me da vueltas en la cabeza, cuyo comienzo no me da paz&#8217;. David era el concertino de Mendelssohn en la Orquesta de la Gewandhaus de Leipzig, y compart\u00edan un profundo v\u00ednculo espiritual y art\u00edstico, que el compositor expres\u00f3 en la misma carta: &#8216;&#8230; Que el cielo nos permita [ ] mantener firme todo aquello que es amado y sagrado en el arte, para que no muera&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, el concierto no ver\u00eda la luz hasta casi siete a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s. Mientras, Mendelssohn iba trabajando.
