Premiere and enthusiasm with Mahler’s Fifth Symphony

First of all, we want to thank everyone who accompanied us to the opening of the 13th Season of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia at the Palau de la Música Catalana.

It was a very special night that began with the absolute premiere of Albert Guinovart's 'Marta of the Lowlands Suite' Suite, a piece that condenses a fascinating play of colors and which has been expressly commissioned by our orchestra to commemorate the centenary of the death of Àngel Guimerà.

Next, the performance of Mahler's Fifth Symphony immersed us in a captivating emotional journey. Tomàs Grau did a deep reading of this monumental work, extracting all its expressive power from the beautiful melodic motifs as well as the rhythmic games inserted in the score.

The funeral march in the first movement impressed with its solemnity, while the emotional intensity of the second movement was overwhelming. The Scherzo, the core of the symphony, stood out for its clarity and magic, and the Adagietto, written by Mahler with exquisite delicacy, stopped time.

The concert culminated with the passionate coda that left us in awe.
