Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar

The Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra has performed on the most prominent stages in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. It has recorded Latin American repertoire and a series of CDs for Dorian Recordings.

In 2005, the Academic Orchestral Program was created. Maestro Abreu knew it was time to continue the institution’s finest orchestra. By uniting the most talented musicians and through rigorous auditions, he formed the new generation that would be called the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.

She has been a guest at the most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall, Konzerthaus (Vienna), Teatro alla Scala, Salle Pleyel, and Accademia Santa Cecilia, under the direction of renowned maestros such as Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Krzysztof Penderecki, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Lorin Maazel.

She was the resident orchestra at the Lucerne Festival (2010), Walt Disney Hall (2012), and has performed at the Salzburg Festival (2013), Teatro alla Scala (2015), and the BBC Proms (2016). She has also given six performances of West Side Story.

In 2019, she performed at the new Paolo VI Auditorium in the Vatican, the Zaryadye Hall in Moscow, and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. In 2022, it performed in Turkey and at the Edinburgh Festival with Dudamel and also in concert with Rafael Payare, and in 2023 in China with Rodolfo Barráez and Christian Vásquez.

The Orchestra has recorded numerous albums for Deutsche Grammophon, including Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 5 and 7, Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, the album Fiesta, featuring works by Latin American composers, and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and Francesca da Rimini, among others.
