Sunwook Kim

Sunwook Kim is a conductor with a rapidly expanding international career. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he has built strong relationships with leading orchestras as a guest conductor. He collaborates regularly with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he has conducted a wide-ranging repertoire including works by Strauss and Beethoven.

He has made highly successful debuts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra—leading to immediate re-invitations—as well as with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He also maintains a close relationship with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, with which he has worked on several occasions. Future engagements include concerts with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Enescu Philharmonic, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.

In 2023, he was appointed Music Director of the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra (Korea), a position he has held since January 2024. Since his debut with the orchestra, he has conducted repertoire ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Strauss and Bartók, collaborating with soloists such as Vadym Kholodenko, Marc Bouchkov and Clara-Jumi Kang.

In 2025, he led the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from the piano on a tour across Europe and Korea, performing in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, London’s Barbican and the Salle Philharmonique in Liège.

Born in Seoul in 1988, he completed a master’s degree in conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, where he has been an Honorary Member (FRAM) since 2019.
