Laurence Equilbey

conductor

Laurence Equilbey is one of today’s leading French conductors and a major figure in choral and symphonic repertoire and historically informed performance.

Founder of the acclaimed choir accentus and, in 2012, Insula orchestra, Equilbey has developed a career defined by research, innovation and a particular commitment to rediscovering women composers unjustly overlooked by history, including Louise Farrenc and Emilie Mayer.

As a guest conductor, she has worked with ensembles including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, Camerata Salzburg and National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, among many others.

In 2024, she made her debut with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia on a tour of Tarragona, Lleida and Barcelona. The programme, featuring Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 1 and Fauré’s Requiem, showcased her sensitivity, precision and interpretative depth.
