Christoph Eschenbach

Conductor

Christoph Eschenbach is one of the great personalities of the international conducting world. Acclaimed both as a conductor and pianist, he is distinguished by the breadth of his repertoire, the depth of his interpretations and a career closely associated with some of the world’s most prestigious musical institutions.

Born in Wrocław in 1940, he began his career as a pianist and won major competitions including the ARD Competition in Munich and the Clara Haskil Competition. Encouraged by figures such as George Szell and Herbert von Karajan, he gradually turned his career towards conducting.

He has served as music or artistic director of ensembles including the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Houston Symphony, NDR Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Philadelphia Orchestra, among many others.

In March 2024, he made his debut with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia in concerts in Tarragona and at the Palau de la Música Catalana, culminating in a memorable performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.
