Belgian violinist of Russian-Ukrainian descent, Marc Bouchkov, a sophisticated artist with impeccable poise, is establishing himself as one of the most distinctive and versatile musicians of the new generation.
Recent highlights include his debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Lahav Shani, his debut with the Budapest Festival Orchestra alongside Gábor Takács-Nagy, a tour with the Verbier Chamber Orchestra in China and Hong Kong, a tour of Japan with Norichika Iimori, his debut with Sunwook Kim in Seoul, the conclusion of his residency with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra under Lorenzo Viotti, Ryan Bancroft, and Hannu Lintu, a performance of Brahms’s Double Concerto with Mischa Maisky under Christoph Eschenbach, as well as the complete cycle of Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas at the Verbier Festival, Tokyo’s Oji Hall, and the Israel Philharmonic recital series with pianist Mao Fujita.
Upcoming engagements include his return to the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra with Juanjo Mena and a concert with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI alongside Marta Gardolińska. At the 2025 Verbier Festival, he performed with several chamber partners and made his debut as a soloist with Teodor Currentzis.
Deutsche Grammophon Gold recently released his live recordings of Ysaÿe’s sonatas and his Verbier Festival concerto performance. He has also recorded an album entirely dedicated to Mendelssohn with Claire Huang-Ci for Berlin Classics, and his first album with Harmonia Mundi featured premieres of works by Eugène Ysaÿe and his own compositions, earning both the Diapason d’Or and the Diapason Découverte. He has also recorded a chamber music album with works by Igor Raykhelson and violin concertos by Alexey Shor.
He has collaborated with numerous leading orchestras and conductors, including the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, Munich Philharmonic, HR Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, and Brussels Philharmonic, working with Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Ludovic Morlot, Lionel Bringuier, and Maxim Vengerov, among others.
Bouchkov has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Teatro alla Scala, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the St. Petersburg Concert Hall, Zurich’s Tonhalle, Maison de Radio France, and the Konzerthaus Berlin.
As a recitalist, he is a regular guest at the Verbier Festival, the Tsinandali Festival, and the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with Evgeny Kissin, Mischa Maisky, András Schiff, Lahav Shani, Klaus Mäkelä, and Behzod Abduraimov.
His awards include the Gold Medal at the Montreal International Musical Competition and the Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
Bouchkov was born into a family of violinists and received his first lessons at the age of five from his grandfather. He continued his studies with Claire Bernard and Boris Garlitsky, and later with Mihaela Martin at the Kronberg Academy. For many years, he received musical guidance from Eduard Wulfson. He is currently a professor at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège (Belgium) and, since April 2025, holds a professorship at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
