Mischa Maisky is one of the leading cellists of recent decades. Born in Riga, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Mstislav Rostropovich and later with Gregor Piatigorsky, becoming the only cellist to have studied with both legendary masters.
His international career has taken him to the world’s leading concert halls and brought collaborations with musicians including Martha Argerich, Radu Lupu, Gidon Kremer, Itzhak Perlman, Lang Lang and Janine Jansen. His highly individual style, marked by expressive freedom and emotional intensity, has made him one of the most distinctive personalities on the international music scene.
Maisky has also developed an extensive recording career covering much of the great cello repertoire. His interpretations of Bach’s Suites for solo cello hold a particularly important place in his artistic journey.
His relationship with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia has included several projects, notably performances of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto and recitals devoted to Bach’s Cello Suites at the Palau de la Música Catalana.
