The Franz Schubert Filharmonia Academy consolidates its second class with 13 young musicians

The Franz Schubert Filharmonia concludes the 2025-26 edition of its Academy after a season marked by the growth of the project and the consolidation of its educational and professional training model.

A total of 13 academy musicians took part in this edition, significantly increasing the number of participants compared to the first class and, for the first time, incorporating wind and percussion players. The young musicians represented the disciplines of violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet and percussion.

Throughout the season, the academy musicians received ongoing mentorship from the principal players of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, deepening their knowledge of repertoire, technique, style and artistic identity, while also gaining insight into the values and dynamics of professional orchestral practice.

This season’s mentors included Maria Florea and Miguel Ángel Castillo (violin), Bruno Hurtado (cello), Yamila Pedrosa (double bass), Ana Ferraz (flute), Pau Roca (oboe), Lluís Casanova (clarinet), Pablo Hernández (horn), Carlos Martí (trumpet) and Pau Montané (percussion).

Beyond the educational work, the academy musicians actively participated in six productions of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia’s 2025-26 Season, sharing the stage with internationally acclaimed artists such as Anna Fedorova, Rune Bergmann, Leticia Moreno and Yulianna Avdeeva.

During this professional experience, they performed demanding repertoire including Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto, the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, the centenary celebration of Turandot at the Palau de la Música Catalana and the latest edition of the Sant Pau Festival in Barcelona.

The Franz Schubert Filharmonia Academy thus reaffirms its commitment to supporting new generations of musicians in their transition into the professional world, offering an immersive experience within a high-level symphonic season.

The project aims not only to provide musical training, but also to foster the students’ growth as future music professionals, preparing them to successfully face the challenges of the musical and especially orchestral world.

This second edition consolidates the Academy’s growth and reinforces the Franz Schubert Filharmonia’s commitment to the development of young talent, high-quality training and building a future for the next generations of musicians.
