Programme notes

Àlex Ollé presents the furera version of the fable L’Histoire du Soldat by Igor Stravinsky. A shocking adaptation converted into a denunciation and deep reflection on wars today and a call for peace and freedom. Premièred in Lyon last spring to overwhelming public and critical success, the commission to mark the 100th anniversary of the première of the work in Lausanne comes to Spain for the first time thanks to the Peralada Festival. The revision of the work proposes a more large-scale piece than a chamber opera. The devil is presented as the voice of the unconscious, as the alter ego of the protagonist, where good and evil are not external agents to the soldier, but “aspects that make up his personality and a clear example of human complexity”. The production is built on strong cinematographic roots that maintain the original score by Stravinsky, the text by Ramuz, together with passages by Jean Cocteau, Paul Valéry and the heart-breaking suicide letter signed by Daniel Somers, a soldier who was unable to overcome post-traumatic stress after the Iraq war, with which the piece ends. A clear and devastating denunciation of the establishment that invites deep reflection. A unique chance to discover this wonderful show by La Fura dels Baus in Peralada.

Advertissement: Some scenes contain videos likely to hurt sensibe and young people.

Not recommended to children under 14.

Show in French with subtitles.
