Programme notes

We close the season with a large format production and artistic commitment: we read that Mozart was commissioned to compose this Requiem anonymously by an aristocrat who wanted to appropriate it. The composer became so obsessed that he came to regard this work as his own Mass of the Dead. He could not finish it and it was his pupil F. X. Süssmayr who took charge of finishing the Requiem following the outlines and indications of the practically moribund Mozart. The work was finally premiered in Vienna on January 2, 1793, at a concert organized for the benefit of the widow of the Austrian musician. Nowadays, it is still one of the most interpreted pieces of the repertoire associated with the ‘classic music’ and one of the audience favourites.

This version by Orquestra Simfònica Camera Musicae includes the mastery of our Principal Guest Conductor, Salvador Mas, and the talent of four Catalan solo voices accompanied by the solid choir of the Cathedral of Barcelona, the Francesc Valls Chamber Choir, who are conducted with great accuracy by Pere Lluís Biosca. With all of them, we finish a season of concerts that we hope you will be excited by as much as we are.
