Programme notes

The music of the Orquestra Simfònica Camera Musicae arrives this Sunday at the Tarraco Arena Plaza with the support of the Diputació de Tarragona, which offers this concert in order to bring classical music closer to the citizens of Camp de Tarragona and Les Terres del Ebre.

Under the direction of Tomàs Grau, the OCM will play the first part of the Symphony No. 9 in E minor, best known for its subtitle, of the New World Symphony, work by the composer born in Bohemia Antonin Dvořák. The second part will be dedicated to the famous suite of ten pieces of Pictures at an Exhibition by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky.

Those interested in attending as a public at the concert this Sunday, day 21, at 7 pm at the Tarraco Arena Plaza, can do so without prior booking of tickets. This is a free and free entry concert, just keep in mind that the capacity is limited.

BIOGRAPHY TOMÀS GRAU

Born in Barcelona in 1979, Tomàs Grau studied music at the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música in the same city, where he became Senior Lecturer in Choir Conducting and was awarded the Prize of Honour in 2003. He continued his studies in Conducting at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, where he obtained the Superior Degree of Orchestra Conducting, achieving the highest qualifications, in 2007. He continued his studies with the Wiener Meisterkurse in 2006 and 2007, specializing in Orchestra Conducting.

He has studied with maestros of recognized international prestige such as Salvador Mas Conde, Jordi Mora, Pierre Cao, Gary Graden and José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana.

He has conducted, among others, national and international soloists such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sabine Meyer, Stephen Kovacevich, Alexandra Soumm, Hartmut Rohde, Asier Polo, Judith Jáuregui, Lluís Claret, Núria Rial, Ángel Ódena, Dúo del Valle and Albert Guinovart in the principal concert halls of Catalonia and Spain.

He is currently the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquestra Simfònica Camera Musicae, and is regularly invited to conduct other orchestras, such as the Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia, Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, Orquestra Ciutat de Sant Boi, Orquestra de Cambra de Vic, Orquestra de Cambra de Vila-seca and Orquestra de Cambra de Cervera, among others.
