Programme notes
Did you know that the world´s premiere of the famous Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo took place at Palau de la Música? It was November 9th, 1940, during the season of Orchestra Filarmónica de Barcelona. César de Mendoza Lassalle conducted guitarist Regino Sainz de la Maza, who acted as a soloist. To open the soirée, the Orchestra Filarmónica performed de Dvorák’s symphony n.9 in Mi minor ‘From the New World’, and they concluded it interpreting brief pieces by Bach, Sors, Tárrega and Casella.
To reenact the program in reverse order we are counting with a splendid soloist. Rafael Aguirre has obtained an amazing record for a Spaniard: 13 international first awards, among them Pro Musicis (New York) and the Tàrrega contest (Benicássim). This guitarist from Malaga is today a referring artist in the tradition of Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes.
He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Moscow Tchaikovsky’s concert hall, Cuba’s National Theater… Our Principal Guest conductor Jordi Mora, will lead the ensemble.
