There are concerts that, due to their repertoire and artists, are destined to become major events of the season, and this is one of them. To enjoy in the same concert the majestic ‘Great’ Symphony by Schubert conducted by Tomàs Grau, and also witness the debut in our country of the virtuoso Korean flutist Jasmine Choi performing Mozart’s sublime concerto for flute and orchestra, makes this a must-attend concert for any music lover.
Jasmine Choi is one of the most celebrated flautists of our time, known for her virtuosity and refined playing, as well as her daring projects. She has performed around the world in a wide variety of genres, from classical solo, chamber and orchestral music, to experimental, jazz and pop music.
She has been principal flute of the Vienna Symphony under Fabio Luisi and associate principal flute of the Cincinnati Symphony under Paavo Jarvi, and has performed as soloist with the Vienna Symphony, the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony , the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Salzburg Mozart Players, the Berlin Symphony and the New York Classical Players, as well as in recitals in Paris, Vienna, London, Munich, Geneva, New York, Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong Kong.
Her infinite curiosity has also led her to make her own arrangements of great works, such as the violin concertos by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky, as well as to perform new works by living composers. He has published numerous arrangements of hers through the Theodore Presser Company, and has premiered more than 10 flute concertos written for her.
Choi was Artist in Residence at the New York Classical Players for three consecutive seasons (2018-2021), in addition to being Artist in Residence at the Sejong Arts Center in Seoul for her 40th anniversary season. She has recorded several CDs as a solo artist with the Sony Classical label. Additionally, she has taught master classes at Juilliard, Curtis Institute of Music, Indiana University, Colburn School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, University of Florida, Harvard University, and Universität für Musik of Vienna, among others.
She grew up in the third generation of a family of classical musicians in Korea, and she began learning piano and violin at a young age. She became the last student of the legendary Julius Baker when she was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music at age sixteen. Choi continued her studies at the Juilliard School with Jeffrey Khaner, and later had private lessons with Thomas Robertello and Robert Stallman.
