Programme notes
After a first -and happy- collaboration last season with the Catalan conductor Antoni Ros Marbà (on that occasion, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the debut of the pianist Alba Ventura), we repeated an invitation with the intention of turning this concert into a real event. The renowned musician, born in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat in Catalunya, celebrates his 80th birthday and does so with the vitality and illusion necessary to tackle a precious concert in very different aspects.
Ros Marbà has chosen a programme with great care that opens with the Die Meistersinger Suite by Wagner, one of the most popular in his repertoire. To close the programme, there is an essential work and an authentic exercise for the Orchestra: Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor. Musicologists assure us that the German composer took almost fifteen years to complete it (the first sketches date from 1862 and it did not premiere until 1876). Be that as it may, a work with Beethoven’s ‘flavour’ will surely be exciting in a version of unique maturity.
