A box for sharing, music as a space for connection and transformation

During the 2024–25 season at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Franz Schubert Filharmonia launched a simple yet deeply meaningful initiative: dedicating one of the concert hall’s boxes as a Social Box. Concert after concert, this space has been opened to people who often lack easy access to symphonic music—but who may need it as much, or even more, than anyone else.

Thanks to a collaboration with Teaming, the solidarity platform that channels one-euro monthly donations to social causes, several organisations from across the country working with people in vulnerable situations were invited to attend. A total of 54 people enjoyed the Social Box across eight concerts, coming from very different walks of life: homeless individuals supported by the Arrels Foundation, children in the Raval neighbourhood making music at Xamfrà, women assisted by Fundación Amaranta, young musicians from Vozes, care teams from the Anita Association who support children with cancer, refugees connected with the OCC, patients living with rare diseases like CADASIL, and members of the Isidre Esteve Foundation.

With this initiative, Franz Schubert Filharmonia reaffirms one of its founding principles: that music is not a luxury for the few, but a shared cultural good capable of transforming, healing, and building community. Opening a box means opening a window—to beauty, to shared experience, and to the universal right to feel moved.

Their work—based on the power of small gestures—has been key to bringing music to places where it can make the greatest difference.

The season draws to a close, but the memory of every moved gaze and every shared silence in that box reminds us: music is not just something you hear—it’s something that walks beside you.
