The bastion of the musical tradition

Christoph Eschenbach (Wroclaw, 1940) was a war orphan and raised by a cousin of his mother, the pianist Wallydore Eschenbach. Following his piano and conducting studies, Eschenbach won prestigious piano awards that helped establish his international fame.

Finally, supported by Herbert von Karajan, Eschenbach focused more on orchestral conducting, becoming the absolute reference of the great Germanic tradition of conductors.

Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra From 2019 to 2023

He has recently been appointed Artistic Director of the Wroclaw Philharmonic, FNM

Christoph Eschenbach is a Member of the Legion of Honor and Knight of Arts and Letters of France; recipient of the German Federal Cross of Merit and has been awarded the Leonard Bernstein Award.
