Maria Florea

Born into a family of musicians and actresses, Maria began studying the violin at the age of four with her father.

She has studied at some of Europe’s most prestigious institutions, receiving instruction from Gonçal Comellas in Figueres, Zakhar Bron at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, György Pauk at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and Rainer Schmidt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Musik-Akademie in Basel.

As a soloist, she has performed in major concert halls across Europe and China. Highlights include appearances with the OBC at the opening concert of the 2020/2021 season at L’Auditori in Barcelona, as well as in the summer of 2024 at the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid with RTVE, with GIO Symphonia, Camerata Penedès, at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest with the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova, at the Palau de la Música Catalana with the OSV, and with ADDA Simfònica in Alicante.

She has recently performed at the Schubertíada in Vilabertran, the Sociedad Filarmónica de Oviedo, the Fundación Juan March in Madrid, the Barcelona Obertura Festival, and the PAAX Festival in Mexico.

She is the concertmaster of the Franz Schubert Filharmonia and regularly collaborates with OBC, OSV, Vigo 430, GIO Symphonia, Orquestra Da Camera, as well as the Esbjerg Ensemble, the Malpelo dance company, and Ensemble Bayona, with whom she recorded her first CD: Cuando el fuego abrasa.

She is a founding member of Trio da Vinci, winners of the 14th BBVA Montserrat Alavedra Chamber Music Prize in Terrassa (Barcelona), with whom she has performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto this season alongside the OSSC, and will also make her debut at the Schubertíada in Valdegovía (Basque Country). She is also part of The Rest Project, an original initiative that seeks to break away from the traditional concert format, where performers not only play music but also explore movement and spoken word.

She plays a violin by Eduard Sitjas Bonet, made in Girona in 2024.
