Virtuosity and passion with Maxim Vengerov

Last Sunday we had an exceptional night.

All of the Maxim Vengerov traits we've admired for decades were present in the two Mozart violin concertos he performed. Its rich and concentrated sound; an agile and immaculate technique; the meaning and purpose it injects into every note; and, above all, the impressive bow control that allows him to surprisingly lengthen sentences.

In the second part, Tomàs Grau conducted Brahms's First Symphony.Grau offered his characteristic diaphanous, clear and lyrically precise reading. Marking accents of great beauty in the attacks of the oboe, the epicness of the timpani and horns, or the heroism and melancholy of the strings. These latter brought complete clarity to every shift in mood and meaning throughout the work: exquisite calm in the second movement, gentle sympathy in the third, and the journey to spiritual enlightenment of the fourth
