Nielsen’s Quintet

Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet—a work regarded as the most subtle and refined quintet in history. In this piece, Nielsen allows the instruments to engage in dialogue with a freedom and character never before seen, blending the unique qualities of each into an extraordinary score; it is distinguished by the freshness of the first movement and the serenity of the concluding chorale, which possesses an expressive beauty without precedent.
